As LDS Grandparents, one of the most satisfying truths that we have the privilege to bear testimony about, to our grandchildren, is that of eternal families. In fact, in the post – “Top Ten Things An LDS GrandParent Should Tell Their Grandchildren.” – telling them about your eternal family, is number four on our list…
Just recently, one of our daughters – after seven years of civil marriage, was able to be sealed to her husband for time and all eternity, in the Holy Temple. This created a wonderful opportunity for this Nana, to share her feelings about the temple and our eternal family – with some of her own grandchildren. Many of us, are still waiting to witness some of our children sealed in the temple. So, you know just how significant, and emotional this day was, to our family…
This truly was a special day, as you can imagine. Once my daughter and her husband were sealed together in that beautiful and sacred ceremony - temple workers escorted three small children – dressed in Celestial attire, to come and join their parents. It was a vision to behold, and one that I shall never, throughout all of eternity – forget. Even now, I can still vividly picture this sweet eternal family, clothed in white – as they surrounded the Holy altar of God, and were sealed together, forever.
The doctrine that families can be together forever, is for the LDS GrandParent – at the very heart of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This beautiful eternal truth, draws us immediately to the atonement of Jesus Christ, and precisely what that great sacrifice provides for each and every one of us; to be together forever!
As we bear witness of the power of the priesthood to bind families, which is given to us through Jesus Christ – and because of the atonement… our grandchildren come to know how important our Savior is to all of us. Depending upon the age of your grandchildren, and from the time they are very young – the LDS GrandParent can teach these eternal principles to their grandchildren.
Each one of us, has the deep desire to belong… and teaching our grandchildren that they belong to us, in a beautiful eternal chain of love – is a powerful key of knowledge, to plant within their hearts:-)

Kathryn, I love the “beautiful eternal chain” metaphor. What a special experience for your daughter’s family to be sealed — thus completing the chain!

Thank you. It is so important that our grandchildren, and all of us for that matter, come to understand – is that we are a part of something greater than ourselves; and that – is a our eternal family! The strength of our eternal family, comes to us through a chain of eternal truth and love that we can depend upon in this life, into the next.
In this life, and for our grandchildren, we are the strongest link of that chain – of which they can see, know and can help build their eternal foundation of truths.

Not completing the chain, continuing the chain. The temple helps us see our part in the whole plan. We see ourselves in context.
What a great thing grandparents can do. Help children get a glimpse of where they fit in the eternities.

Precisely! The eternal family is an ongoing chain of love, where perspective is critical to understanding the doctrine. Grandparents help grandchildren connect those eternal links:-)

Thank you. It was a long awaited, and beautiful day. I think some people call it a “pay-off” day for parents.

Thank you for your wonderful site! I am trying to build a site for LDS young adults – do you have any suggestions? I love the theme you have chosen. Is it working well? What are your favorite resources? What lessons have you learned? I am a novice and would appreciate any suggestions you could share about creating an attractive, helpful, and inspiring site. Thanks for making your site all of those things!

We witnessed that wonderful blessing twice last year (2007). There’s nothing as beautiful as seeing little precious grandchildren dressed in white being brought into the sealing room by Temple staff. Your photo is wonderful. Thank you!

How wonderful for your family, too! Yes, it is a sight to behold – to say the least. Thank you.

Thank you for your kind comments. LDS Young Adults are a very special group of people. Really, it is an area of the Church, where much strengthening can be done.
In my opinion, anything that you could do to specifically address those issues that are of most interest to the Young Single Adult, would be very helpful. I suppose, that is your job — to find out what those issues are, and create a great resource for YSA to draw from.
Best of luck. Let me know when you are up and running.

Thank you so much for your very kind, as well as – encouraging words. I realize that there are many places on line, that address the topic of grandparenting. It is my desire, to focus specifically on our covenant role as an LDS GrandParent.
I look forward to see you in the future.
